Embroidered Goldwork Camellia in the Style of Guo Pei: In-Person Workshop

Join us as the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design (SFSNAD). Create this pin or hair comb based on the style of fashion designer, Guo Pei. Learn goldwork stitching and silk shaded satin stitch to stitch the delicate layers of this camellia flower. Finished with Swarovski crystals, this is a perfect accessory to wear when you view the exhibition Guo Pei, Couture Fantasy at the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco!

Supplies: All materials will be provided to you in class.


This member-only workshop will also be given online via Zoom in a separate event on August 26th.

About Lucy Barter: Prior to co-founding SFSNAD, Lucy was the sole proprietor of her needlework business, Forever Embroidery Studio. Lucy served as the resident embroidery teacher at Filoli, created a Goldwork Embroidery Craftsy class, and served as the US Course Coordinator and instructor for the Royal School of Needlework.


In 2006, Lucy graduated from the Royal School of Needlework Apprenticeship Programme, and holds a BA Honors Degree in Fashion Design from the University of Northumbria. Lucy brings many valuable years of teaching, design and technical expertise to the needlework field. She is passionate about sharing traditional embroidery techniques.


Registration for this class closes 1 day prior to the start date. If you would like to inquire about the possibility of late registration, please contact tac@famsf.org. Late registration will be accommodated when possible.



Cancellation policy: Tuition will be refunded less a $25 processing fee up to 3 days (72 hours) prior to class start time. No refunds for cancellations with less than 3 days notification before class start time.


COVID-19 precautions: SFSNAD requires proof of vaccination in order to participate in onsite, in-person courses and classes. Particularly in light of the Omicron variant, we require visitors, students, and guests to the site to wear a well-fitting, non-vented mask such as an N95, KN95, or KF94 rated mask.
