TAC Tour of New York City

TAC Tour of New York City

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, September 5, 6 and 7, 2018 New York, New York

Admission: Open to members of the TAC only. Cost: $325, pre-registration is required.

The Textile Arts Council is planning a trip to New York City!

The highlight of the trip will be a docent-led tour of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination at both the Met Fifth Avenue and the Met Cloisters. The exhibition and the benefit for The Costume Institute are made possible by Christine and Stephen A. Schwarzman, and Versace. Additional support is provided by Condé Nast.

The first day will be spent in the Garment District, including a docent-led tour at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) museum’s exhibit “Fashion Unraveled” and a guided walking tour about the history of the Garment Center in New York. A catered lunch at FIT will give us time to hear from our own experts, Shelley Wells and Alex Friedman, about ecclesiastic textiles and medieval tapestries.

Day two is a before-hours tour of the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” exhibit at the Costume Institute at the Met Fifth Avenue.

Day three is a docent-led tour of the Highlights of the Met Cloisters including the Unicorn Tapestries (both of these tours include all-day admission to both the Met Fifth Avenue and the Met Cloisters.) Additional optional tours of the Antonia Ratti Center Textile Center and Reference Library and the Conservation Lab at the Costume Institute at the Met Fifth Avenue are planned. Other special events are being negotiated.
