FASHION IN THE BELLE EPOQUE FROM TISSOT TO CALLOT … “WHO WORE IT BETTER?”

Please join us as distinguished New York University Professor and contributing fashion historian to The New Yorker magazine,

Dr. Jessamyn Hatcher

takes us on a fascinating journey spanning the Belle Epoque (1870’s – 1920’s); from the extraordinary fashion details in the paintings of James Tissot in the era’s beginning, through the impressive phenomenon of the pioneering French haute couture fashion designers, Callot Souers, in its concluding years.

Before and after the talk, docents specifically trained in attention to costume details will lead us on a private tour of “James Tissot’s Paintings, Fashion and Faith” Legion of Honor Exhibition.

This event is partially funded by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco to benefit the Costume and Textile Arts and its Conservation Department.

  1. Talk and Docent Tour $85.

  2. Textile Art Council Members $75.

  3. Dresser’s Circle $155. Includes a 4:00 Champagne Reception with Dr. Hatcher at a Private Residence.
